Description: The fifth volume of this series brings us two close-together sonatas (1929 and 1935) from Badings with a dark, classical-romantic quality notable for their elegiac slow movements and the composer's experimentation with octotonic writing. Dresden's First (1916) is late Romantic with elements of French Impressionism and the Second, written in 1942, while in seclusion as a Jew with an Aryan wife, is much more Romantic in tone, its three movements moving from relative lightness through darker and more agitated moods. Doris Hochscheid (cello), Frans van Ruth (piano). SACD hybrid
