Description: Bax's 1920 Fantasy has had only one other recording, on Conifer in 1989, and that's mystifying since it's a potently romantic work in his mature Irish vein which should be on the shelf of every Bax collector. The other main event here is the first recording of Holland's c.1940 work, a 16-minute exercise in English pastoral impressionism, inspired by the misty, dreamy atmosphere of the Suffolk marshes, punctuated by a central sunny period. Harvey's 1990 work, reconstituted this year, is based on music for two English TV presentations - a P.D. James adaptation (Shroud for a Nightingale) and Len Deighton's Game, Set and Match: moody, evocative material with elements of minimalism. Roger Chase (viola), BBC Concert Orchestra; Stephen Bell, Richard Harvey.
