Description: These are pretty remarkable works: each instrument is independent and has much to do soloistically - even the double bass - while the horn parts are positively fiendish. Only the actual baryton part hangs fire since, of course, Prince Esterhazy, for whom all Haydn's baryton works were written, was an amateur. But much of what else is here is fully Classical chamber music and the long, lyrical slow movements could even be said to look forward to Schubert! 2 CDs for the price of 1. Ricercar Consort. Original 1989 and 1991 releases.
