Description: Unlike the majority of recordings from this source, this one is live from the Edinburgh International Festival (Aug. 19, 2005), in a concert version which adds to the intensity of the performances without the thumps and scrapes of stage movement. An 1817 failure which was never performed again after 1825, Adelaide is given the full treatment by Opera Rara, who both defend the libretto as being 20 years ahead of its time and the music which, while awfully good in places, isn't all by Rossini (and much of which he was to use later in other operas).
