Description: Forces which have recorded Mayr already for the Guild label now show up at budget-price with a 44-minute cantata from 1825 which, like Mayr's operas, shows his synthesis of Viennese Classicism and Italianate melody and dramatic style. The 15-minute Beethoven cantata (1827, obviously) contains allusions to Wellington's Victory, the Symphony No. 6 and Christ on the Mount of Olives - which tells us something about the perceived popularity of Beethoven's works at the time of his death.
