LEOPOLD KOZELUCH (1747-1818): Clarinet Concertos No. 1 in E Flat and No. 2 in E Flat, Sonate concertante in E Flat.

Description: Kozeluch's only surviving works for clarinet and orchestra. The Sonate - based on material from two string quartets - the only one firmly dated (1790) and looking ahead to Beethoven in its tragic pathos and cantabile lyricism. The first concerto is obviously earlier with its reliance on Bohemian models of the composer's youth while the second will seem familiar - Kozeluch is thought to have based it on Carl Stamitz' Concerto No. 3 (or the other way around as dates are not firm).
