JÓZEF WIENIAWSKI (1837-1912): Symphony in D, Op. 49, Ouverture dramatique “Guillaume le Tactiturne”, Op. 43.
Catalogue Number: 12S001
Label: Acte Préalable
Description: A nice, meaty 34-minute symphony from Henryk’s pianist brother, expansive, full-throated and open-hearted, broadly phrased and lyrical, closer to Brahms than to anyone else but with a scherzo that sounds like Mendelssohn on steroids and a very rustic trio. It dates from 1890 and is coupled with a 16-minute dramatic overture inspired by William of Orange composed in 1887. Acte Préalable doesn’t often do orchestral recordings but when they do they sure make it count! Artur Malawski Podkarpacka Philharmonic Orchestra; Piotr Wajrak.
