Description: Gade's early (1840) quartet was experimental - a programmatic work in an example of early Romantic ideas on form and content. Based on a Goethe poem, it begins with a joyful ride to the beloved, has a slow movement of romantic bliss and a third, Serenata scherzando, in which the lover anticipates the pain of parting. Gade never finished it, leaving the third movement unfinished near the end. This appears to be the first recording to complete it although the notes do not give credit to whoever did it (the whole string quartet themselves?). It also may be the first recording of it in any form since the BIS CD of 1995. Leipzig String Quartet.
