ALBERT ROUSSEL (1869-1937): Symphony No. 1 "Le poème de la forêt", Résurrection - Symphonic Prelude, Incidental music from Le marchand de sable qui passe.
Catalogue Number: 12L055
Description: Here are the only currently available recordings of Roussel's first orchestral piece - the 11-minute Resurrection from 1903, a delicate and mysterious "symphonic prelude" inspired by Tolstoy's last novel - and the 18-minute suite of incidental music for a 1908 play. Of course, the attractive first symphony, generally following his teacher D'Indy stylistically but not without Impressionistic touches as well, is hardly over-recorded either. Royal Scottish National Orchestra; Stéphane Denève.
