FERRUCCIO BUSONI (1866-1924): Piano Music, Vol. 6 - Sonata in F Minor, Op. 20, K204, Prélude et étude en arpèges, K297, LISZT/BUSONI: Fantasy and Fugue on "Ad nos, ad salutarem undam".
Catalogue Number: 12L054
Description: The 17-year-old Busoni's sonata was practically unknown until recently and still has only one other recording in the catalogue. The influences of Brahms and Rubinstein are strong in this three-movement, 28-minute sonata which represented the culmination of the composer's performance ambitions as a Romantic virtuoso (ditto for the grand Liszt transcription). The nine-minute Prélude et étude dates from 1923 and is in Busoni's concentrated and refractory late style. Wolf Harden (piano).
