Description: Pierné's 1900 sonata, combining the cyclic form of Franck with the melodic lyricism of Massenet (his two main teachers), is rarely encountered on disc in its original form and usually recorded in the composer's flute transcription. Françaix' early (1934) Sonatine is a perfect example of his wit, charm, brevity and Gallic elegance. Katherine McLin (violin), Andrew Campbell (piano).
