Description: The first three of the above (first recordings) were composed in Poland between 1947 and 1951, Panufnik being motivated by the reconstruction going on around him to reconstruct fragments of medieval and baroque Polish music from historical manuscripts. Hommage à Chopin began life as a 1949 sequence of vocalises for soprano and piano on folk motifs from Masovia, where Chopin was born, and were transcribed for flute and orchestrated in 1966, the same year he did the last of his historical reconstructions, the Jagiellonian Triptych. Needless to say, everything here is well away from Panufnik's more modern composing styles. Igor Cechoco (trumpet), Hanna Turonek (flute), Polish Chamber Orchestra; Mariusz Smolij.
