LEOS JANÁCEK (1854-1928): Lachian Dances, Suite for String Orchestra, Idyll for Strings.
Catalogue Number: 12I049
Reference: SU 3886
Description: These recordings have a particular appeal not only for the unusual items but also for the conducting tradition which led from Frantisek Neumann (1874-1929) who had the composer's own imprimateur as interpreter, through Bretislav Bakala (1897-1958) to Jílek, who took over in Brno at Bakala's death and likewise made Janácek his specialty throughout his life. The two youthful works here date from 1877-78, his earliest instrumental pieces, with the latter in vernal Dvorákian style. Brno Philharmonic Orchestra; Frantisek Jílek. Original 1993 Supraphon release.
