Description: Uçarsu's quartet is a serious and substantial work, consisting of a main section that comprises the central two movements, which are quintessentially Turkish in style and expression, bracketed by a short prologue and epilogue. These are texturally unusual, hollowed out sounds pitting the highest and lowest registers against each other, setting an expectant mood and commemorating a cellist colleague of the composer's in an elegy dominated by the cello. The second movement is a boslak, a Turkish folk song, passionate and dark-hued; and the third, "Karşılama" is a harsh, rustic, hectically dancing representation of a riotous summer festival. The other works are very much what their composers are best known for; Glass in Glassworks/Mishima mode, and the Vasks an impassioned plea for peace, disrupted by intense, protesting toccatas and finally arriving at a state of spiritual grace. Borusan Quartet.
