HARALD GENZMER (1909-2007): Piano Concerto No. 1 (Oliver Triendl), Cello Concerto (Patrick Demenga), Trombone Concerto (Jörgen van Rijen), RSO Berlin; Ariane Matakh.
Catalogue Number: 11T010
Description: The bright, relaxed and airy neo-classicism of the 1938 piano concerto belies the gathering war clouds of the period and goes light on the machine-tooled mannner of the composer’s teacher Hindemith which is usually part of Genzmer’s style. The “Romantic gestures and sensual imagination rarely occurring in his teacher’s works”, as the notes so nicely put it, are present throughout the 1950 cello concerto and the 1999 trombone concerto. As far as I can tell, none of these three concertos has been offered before on any of the many Genzmer discs we’ve offered on several labels (mostly Thorofon) in our two-decade stewardship of Records International.
