Description: The second of three volumes in this series brings two larger-scale works, both from the early 1880s (the 20-minute overture and 21-minute Concert-Stück) and both with what we now know is Nixon’s stylistic mixture mixture of Mendelssohn and Schumann, a very Mendelssohnian scherzo May Day (Midsummernight’s Dreamy) and an operetta prelude from 1895 very much in the Sullivan vein. If you liked volume one eleven months ago (01S002), you’ll want this one also! Ian Hobson (piano), Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra; Paul Mann.
