Description: Panufnik’s four “Seasons” pieces were written for the soloist on this recording between 2007 and 2011 and refer to four countries’ whose musical and spiritual traditions particularly inspired her. The titles are Autumn in Albania (in memory of her father “who lived, loved and died in autumn” and refering to the rich variety of traditions in the Balkans)), Tibetan Winter (on a centuries-old Tibetan song), Spring in Japan (Vivaldi’s birdsong inspiring the use of Japanese birdcalls in spring) and Indian Summer (traditional modes and violin styles of Northern India). These 21 minutes are only a third of the disc but they are quite affecting. Graham Bradshaw (singing bowl), BBC Symphony Orchestra; Tasmin Little (violin).
