PAUL JUON (1872-1940): Piano Sextet in C Minor, Op. 22, Piano Quintet in F, Op. 44.
Catalogue Number: 11O057
Reference: 777 507-2
Description: Juon's familiar traits of Slavic melancholy, late Romantic warmth (often dark in timbre and Germanic in mood) and Slavic folksong should be well-known to collectors now and they are, of course, to be found in these two works, the 1902 sextet (two cellos) which, however, is also as Brahmsian as anything this composer wrote, and the 1909 quintet (2 violas and not to be confused with the Op. 33 quintet for the same scoring which we offered in March 2007 - 03I003). Oliver Triendl (piano), Carmina Quartet, Thomas Grossenbacher (cello - op. 22).
