JAN KRTITEL VANHAL (1739-1813): String Quartets in E Flat "Hoffmeister" No. 2, in A, Op. 33/2 and in F, Op. 33/3.

Description: Dating from the mid to late 1780s, these quartets are a colleague's response to Haydn's Op. 33 quartets (his own Op. 33 set) and to Mozart's own Haydn response (his set of quartets dedicated to Haydn); the Hoffmeister seeming to comment on and answer Mozart in the same manner as the Op. 33 pair do Haydn. In any case, these quartets help explain contemporaries' inclusion of Vanhal on a level with those now more famous composers. Camesina Quartet.
