Description: Herzogenberg spent the first decade or so of his composing career as a confirmed Wagnerian before falling silent for three years, after which he produced his first work on the Brahmsian side of the late 19th century German musical divide: this richly romantic and warmly conservative piano quintet of 1875. One immediately thinks of Brahms from the very first notes which may or may not have something to do with the fact that Brahms himself admitted to a close friend that he never like Herzogenberg's compositions. Pihtipudas Piano Quintet.
