Description: 22 minutes of first recordings while much of the rest isn’t exactly standared repertoire - even the two mélodies by Debussy and Ravel with the vocal part given to the viola. And Büsser’s 1910 Appassionato, one of several pieces here either dedicated to the Paris Conservatoire’s first professor of viola or written as a test piece for students at that institution, sure lives up to its name! Lawrence Power (viola), Simon Crawford-Phillips (piano).
