Description: Meyer was a Swedish violinist and composer who also played the cello and was an excellent pianist. As Mrs. Julius Roentgen, she became part of the Brahms-Herzogenberg-Roentgen circle of close friends and gave Brahms some advice (which he took) on parts of his third violin sonata (explaining the otherwise frustrating programming for this disc). Her sonata is an early work from 1874 and is an all-fast-movement work of impetuous youthful energy. An impassioned, "masculine" first movement is followed by a vernal, song-like allegretto and a dashing Allegro molto vivace finale. She also wrote a violin concerto which we'll probably never hear. Elmira Darvarova (violin), Philip Myers (horn), Bryan Wagorn (piano).
