ASTOR PIAZZOLLA (1921-1992): Sinfonía Buenos Aires, Op. 15, Concerto for Bandoneón, String Orchestra and Percussion "Aconcagua", Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas for Violin and Strings (arr. Leonid Desyatnikov).

Description: The 1951 Sinfonía ended Piazzolla's attempts to clothe the tango in European classical garments. A three-movement work with parts for solo bandonéon, it is notable for its episodic melodic quality and rich, original and often complex orchestration (this is its only available recording); but after this, the tango became the primary element of Piazzolla's composition, as in the 1979 concerto where the string orchestra accompaniment is entirely secondary to the pungent, smoky, emotional musings of the soloist. Daniel Binelli (bandoneón), Tianwa Yang (violin), Nashville Symphony Orchestra; Giancarlo Guerrero.
