Description: This Argentinian composer spent much of his career teaching at the University of Colorado but his native country never left his music. All the works here are imbued with the spirit and rhythms of the tango and other Argentinian folk music and dances, from the straightforward sequence of Habanera, Tango, Samba, Cueca and Galopa of the Fiestas and Dances (written for intermediate pianists) through the Sonatina which stylizes tango, gato and chacarera to the wistful and meditative Midnight Lights (Buenos Aires in the memory of an expatriate) and the big, 32-minute piano trio, which is full of the inimitable melancholy and smoky sadness one finds in Piazzolla.
