Description: These are not reductions: Calace wrote them originally with piano accompaniment and both instruments get plenty of thematic material to handle. Not quite as unusual an instrument as the concertina (see Regondi above), the mandolin yet is associated with early 18th century salons or with Italian peasants. Calace shows how serious a classical instrument it can be in his two concertos while the couplings are for sheer fun. Alison Stephens (mandolin), Steven Devine (piano).
