Description: Only last month (08S040) we offered a new recording of the 1947 Stabat Mater and now Lyrita brings us the broadcast of the premiere performance of the 26-minute Magnificat of 1968 and the UK premiere of the 1962 cantata (13 min.). The former is a richly textured, ebullient piece which recalls Walton’s major choral works and the latter has the rough-hewn strength of its original text, one of John Donne’s “Holy Sonnets”. Mono.
