Description: Not on hand at deadline, the big Stabat Mater of 1906 was first recorded by Chandos back in 1997 (just before we took over at RI). It’s in five movements - two of which are purely orchestral, a nine-minute Prelude and a three-minute Intermezzo - and 44 minutes in length. The Stanford Society website tells us that the accompanying works are first recordings: Resurrection his first major choral-orchestral work (1875) and Song to the Soul from 1913. English and Latin-English texts. Elizabeth Cragg (soprano), Catherine Hopper (mezzo), Robert Murray (tenor), David Soar (bass), The Bach Choir, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra; David Hill.
