Description: How to summarize more than three hours of piano music by a composer we know mostly, if at all, from his large-scale orchestral works? Although they cover 42 years of Casella's career, and contain all kinds of surprises and seeming contradictory attitudes, one can say that the composer never veered from the path of neo-classicism, reconciled to tradition (meaning pre-Romantic era music) but with modernistic tendencies. There's very little here that isn't immediately interesting and none of it lacks personality; at budget price, you can't go wrong. 3 CDs. Michele D'Ambrosio (piano).
