Description: The first two of the duos - all three of which are four-movements sonatas lasting around half an hour - date from 1836, the result of intensive collaborations with his new second wife who helped the non-piano-playing Spohr in writing for the keyboard instrument (the second is an attempt at programmatic writing inspired by a trip to Dresden and the "Saxon Switzerland" south of it). The other first recording is a set of duets subtitled "Songs Without Words" and a tribute to Mendelssohn, which date from 1843. All but the Op. 112 are World Premiere Recordings. 2 CDs. Francesco Parrino (violin), Michele Fedrigotti (1849 Broadwood fortepiano).
