Description: World Premiere Recording of the 1937 piano concerto, a positive and life-affirming work with outer movements of infectious rhythmic vitality and extroverted piano virtuosity enclosing a dreamlike slow movement. The move to Hollywood was still a couple of years away but this concerto sparkles with a Korngoldian elan and with film-music color. The solo pieces include three tone-poems from1919-21, ranging from seven to ten minutes in length and very Impressionistic in style (Bax and Ireland are not far away either), five brief waltzes paying tribute to Vienna's past from 1928 and two "Waves" from 1935 (also first recordings), etudes dedicated humorously to a doctor who had treated a hip problem with radiotherapy. Pietro Massa (piano), Berlin Symphony Orchestra; Alessandro Crudele.
