BERNHARD JOACHIM HAGEN (1720-1787): 6 Sonatas for Lute and Strings.
Catalogue Number: 09L038
Description: Working at the Bayreuth court, where the lute-playing sister of Frederick the Great was Margravine, Hagen wrote the last chapter in the history of this instrument. Among many works for it are these six trios in which the violin and lute are equal partners (Hagen played both professionally) with the cello providing support. Melodies are often tinged with melancholy and many characteristics of the Empfindsamkeit style are used to touching and pleasant effect. John Schneiderman (lute), Elizabeth Blumenstock (violin), William Skeen (cello).
