KARLHEINZ STOCKHAUSEN (1928-2007): Klavierstücke I-XI.
Catalogue Number: 08U048
Reference: WER 7341 2
Description: Stockhausen enthusiasts, and indeed any collector interested in the history of the European avant garde, needs this (arguably, even if you already have Kontarsky's set from the 1960s). This is Ur-Stockhausen, described by the composer as "my drawings" in which he exhaustively tackled the compositional, notational and performance challenges of the new language of post-Webernian total serialism. In the first 11 Pieces, before he started moving in the direction of grandiose theatricality and multimedia, he defined his vocabulary, from the minutely constructed number matrices, sets and series of the earliest works to the extravagant technical challenges of Klavierstück X, with its notorious cluster glissandi and the "polyvalent" labyrinthine structure and notational innovation of Klavierstück XI. 2 CDs. Sabine Liebner (piano).
