HENDRIK ANDRIESSEN (1892-1981): Chorales Nos. 1-4, Sonata da chiesa, A Quiet Introduction, Offertorium, Theme and Variations.
Catalogue Number: 08R056
Label: Brilliant Classics
Description: Andriessen was a great admirer of French organ music, meeting Gaston Litaize and Marcel Dupré on a trip to France in the 1930s and he wrote a biography of Franck during the Second World War. His first two Chorales are plainly modelled on Franck, reserving the full power of the organ for the final stages of the compositions while the other two are more symmetrical and his personal voice more lyrical and individual. A well-filled disc of 74 minutes which, at its price, should certainly appeal to collectors of post-Romantic repertoire. Benjamin Saunders (organ of Leeds Cathedral).
