FRIEDRICH GERNSHEIM (1839-1916): Piano Quintets No. 1 in D Minor, Op. 35 and No. 2 in B Minor, Op. 63.

Description: What a pity when there’s so much unrecorded Romantic chamber music, that we get two Gernsheim piano quintet recordings in five years (see 06L069 for the Toccata Classics issue). As we said before, “These quintets (1876 and 1896) are tightly constructed, powerfully argued and full of rhythmic energy; they're also more tuneful than Brahms. Listen once and you'll be convinced that Gernsheim belongs among the best composers of the German Romantic era.” So for cpo collectors or compare-and-contrast usage, we offer this one too.  Oliver Triendl (piano), Gémeaux Quartet.
