ERNST WILHELM WOLF (1735-1792): String Quartets in B Flat, G Minor and E Flat, Op. 3, Nos. 1-3, Quartetto in C, Quatro in D Minor.

Description: Although he wrote them between the late 1770s and late 1780s, Wolf’s string quartets are not in the Viennese Classical tradition. He worked out of Berlin and his model was the quattro - a trio sonata with added melodic part - of Johann Gottlieb Janitsch. In some movements of these five quartets (all in only three movements, with no minuet), you’ll still hear duos and trios which only later expand into a fully-fledged quartet. Pleyel Quartet Köln.
