Description: Given how many trios and quartets he wrote for string instruments, it's surprising that these are Haydn's only six duos. They are in three movements and 10-13 minutes in length. They are likely to have been written in the early 1770s and, while there is no known dedicatee or reason for their composition, it is useful to remember that the first violinist in the Esterházy orchestra was the famous Luigi Tomasini. Federico Guglielmo (violin), Massimo Piva (viola).
