Description: This collection concentrates on early pieces, almost all of which date from the 1930s, although they were published later. One sees Scelsi searching for a personal style, sampling a dodecaphonic pointillism in the Variazioni and a richer, more emotional, less cerebral atonality in the Poemi, the last of which quotes Berg. On the other hand, the Capriccio is an etude in the romantic grand manner and the 1936 Preludi show various influences of contemporary styles. Rotativa (1930) is a transcription of an orchestral work which, although an homage to a machine, is much softer and gentler than works by such composers as Mosolov, Honegger or Antheil. Donna Amato (piano).
