FRANZ XAVER RICHTER (1709-1789): 6 Grandes Symphonies.
Catalogue Number: 08J034
Description: None of these works duplicate the Chandos release in our April catalogue (04I026); to use the old numbering system, those recorded here are: 13, 34, 36, 40, 63 and 64. Published as part of a twelve-symphony set in Paris in 1744 (before Richter took up his position at Mannheim), these works are still firmly rooted in the baroque tradition with fast movements of a driving intensity with frequent contrapuntal devices and richly expressive slow movements. However, one can also see the concentrated and intense style of Franz Beck as owing much more to Richter than to Beck's teacher Stamitz. Helsinki Baroque Orchestra; Aapo Häkkinen.
