Description: The last of this series brings mostly first recordings of pieces that are either of concert quality or were written for the talented amateur market (like the 34 minute, six-piece cycle Night Thoughts, published in 1917 but containing some pieces likely written more than two decades earlier). Nothing here written for the kiddies (kiddie stuff led to poorer sales of vol. 2 compared to vol. 1) but there are two pieces written by a kiddie: the March and Une Fleure de Mai which Stanford produced at the ages of 8 and 12 respectively. Excellent, interesting and exhaustive notes again. 2 CDs. Christopher Howell (piano).
