GIOVANNI STEFANO CARBONELLI (1694-1773): Sonate da Camera Nos. 1-6.
Catalogue Number: 07T019
Description: Another Italian who came to England (he became a citzen in 1735), Carbonelli is unusually fond of complexity, both technical and compositional, and also unusually open to other contemporary influences, such as those of Handel and Vivaldi. But the quality of his music, published in 1729, speaks for itself – virtuosic and joyously melodic. There are six more sonatas in this set but these are the only surviving works by Carbonelli who spent the rest of his life after around 1730 as a highly successful wine merchant to the rich and famous!
