Description: The German lieder specialist Franz did this duo transcription of Death and the Maiden in 1878, giving us a duo work on an orchestral scale to compare with Schubert’s Grand Duo. Hüttenbrenner’s transcription of the two movements of the Unfinished dates from 1853, taken from the handwritten manuscript he held for forty years before it was first performed by orchestra in 1865. Goldstone used the Schubert sketches for the third movement which Brian Newbold used for his orchestration while the Rosamunde finale transcription is undated in the notes but romantic symphony collectors are told that Friedrich Hermann had a notable success at the Leipzig Gewandhaus with his symphony in 1852 (cpo? Are you listening?) Goldstone & Clemmow (piano duet).
