Description: Although the once-neglected Diaghilev ballet Josephslegende (1912-14), rarely performed in the composer’s lifetime, now has several recordings available, we offer this primarily for the Festmarsch, a six-minute work by the 12-year-old Strauss, heavily influenced by Beethoven (there are several Festmarsches by Strauss; this one has no other recording available). Oh, and the booklet contains a complete synopsis of the ballet: 12 pages! You can imagine all the choreography as you listen. Royal Scottish National Orchestra; Neeme Järvi. SACD hybrid
