Description: Sterling (1999) and Ondine (2003) both recorded Mielck's symphony, coupling it with Concertstücke for piano and orchestra and for violin and orchestra respectively. Here is about all of the rest of this very young Finnish composer's orchestral œuvre: two concert overtures and two choral/orchestral settings all in the conservative, late Romantic style deriving from Mendelssohn and Schumann and then his last one: the five-movement Finnish Suite of 1899 which may have pointed to a new direction involving national folk music as the composer matured but, of course, we'll never know. German-English texts. Juha Kotilainen (baritone), Academic Male-Voice Choir of Helsinki, Lyran Academic Female-Voice Choir, Kampin Laulu Chamber Choir, Helsinki University Symphony Orchestra; Mikk Murdvee.
