Description: Clerch is Cuban, a world-class guitarist and professor of that instrument in Düsseldorf and in his very brief note for the pair of concertos here, says that the commonest reason to write a piece "may be on account of its romantic expressiveness". He admits that the meltingly beautiful music of the guitar concerto of 2006 (especially its 1940s film-score quality second movement) was inspired by romantic bereavement; the flute concerto, brighter, more Gallic before the arrival of Cuban folk thems in its finale, was the result of his current "personal and professional" relationship with the flutist here performing it.
