Description: The free treatment of dissonance in these sonatas, fondness for chromatic twists and harmonic surprises foreshadow the expressiveness of the galant and Empfindsamkeit styles. The cello sonata was published in London in 1748 and is attributed to Sammartini while the brief, 4:35 harpsichord sonata by his better-known brother is in the Neapolitan galant style.
