Description: Although both flute and piccolo are listed in the instrumentarium, the latter seems to be played almost throughout these short English works - although Stephenson has been a South African since 1973 - and his concerto, at just under 20 minutes, is the longest piece here. It is also the most traditionally "Classical"; Rutter's nod to neo-baroque ideals could be film or TV music and Blake's is on the fringe of "British Light (Chamber) Music"; Jacob's is both "Classical" and "Light" in the sense of Mozart's Divertimenti. Melodic, easy to listen to throughout. Arco Baleno Ensemble.
