Description: This mass may be by Leopold Mozart or even really by Mozart himself (Mayr’s own copy has his handwritten “Mozart” at the top); whatever its source, it’s a very Mozartian 43 minutes. Mayr’s own Te Deum is claimed by his 19th century biographer to have been written for Napoleon’s 1805 crowning as King of Italy; current scholars have suggested that it’s a late work from the period of his Einesiedeln masses in the 1820s.
