Description: The sixth in an ongoing series of Jewish music releases from this label, this new one presents music of the New Jewish School for piano, clarinet and string quartet. Although the composers themselves had varied lives and careers (in Russia, in Palestine and in the U.S.), they all wrote works specifically for this formation which had its origin in a group called Zimro, which went on a world tour from 1918-21 when most of its members took professional positions in the U.S. (Bellison, the clarinetist, became soloist with the New York Philharmonic). Everything here was composed between 1925 and 1938 and uses various types of Jewish themes, from cantillation to folk music. Chen Halevi (clarinet), Vogler String Quartet, Jascha Nemtsov (piano).
