Description: Although not as firmly anchored in the later Russian Romantic language of Glazunov or Borodin (moving rather closer in places to Orff) as the works on the two discs by this composer which we offered last month, these two sacred works are still easily approachable with the requiem (dedicated to Pope John Paul II and with a photo of the composer handing the Pope a score of the requiem) abandoning all the traditional requiem texts (and terror of death) to concentrate on passages from the Gospel dealing with love, mercy and resurrection.
