Description: It doesn’t matter that you are not likely ever to see the 1983 film The Fairy Tale of Wanderings: Schnittke’s music, heard here in a ten-segment, 45-minute suite compiled by the conductor, is eminently enjoyable with the synopsis provided in the notes (the adventures of an orphan looks for her younger brother who has the ability to detect gold and treasure and who has been kidnapped by brigands). The 24 minutes of music from a 1976 children’s film based on the Kipling tale is less monumental and involved, being rather a set of six variations on the main theme heard at the beginning of the suite.
